My grandfather taught me how to relate to music.
I want to pass that connection on to my piano students.

growing up

I’m very blessed that I grew up in a musical home. It started with my parents. My dad always had a guitar in his lap. He’d be strumming as we watched TV or talking with my mom while she was in the kitchen. Very often, I’d hear my mom singing along with the radio to both Spanish and English songs. My brother, like me, tried different instruments. And my parents would fully support our practice especially through the difficult beginning stages. But the biggest musical influence in my life was my grandfather who would whip me into his arms to start a salsa step when ever I’d walk by. He used to gather my family including aunts, uncles, and cousins into his living room, handing everyone a Latin percussion instrument. If he ran out of instruments, a pot and wooden spoon would do. He’d encourage us to jam together, having conversations with each other through music and telling stories with our instruments. My grandfather taught me how to relate music. I want to pass that connection on to my students.

education and experience

As a graduate of Northern Arizona University's wonderful music program, I've developed a deep love for sharing the benefits of performing arts through piano education. I began teaching in the East Valley in 2011 and have truly enjoyed leading students to achieving their many individualized goals. To develop my teaching skills, I continue my own education by studying piano through Mesa Community College and attending various teacher workshops/conferences throughout the year. I also volunteer for the Arizona State Music Teachers Association which allows me to help other piano teachers in the community.
